Gaming Commission to hear casino plans

Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News Oct. 28–JACKSON — The Mississippi Gaming Commission announced Thursday that it would meet on the Coast next month to learn about the industry’s plans for rebuilding after Katrina after approving the state’s first land-based casino site.

Casino gambling facts:
- Blackjack originated in French casinos around the 1700's where it was called "vingt-et-un" (twenty-and-one) and has been in United States since the 1800's.
- The most popular forms of illegal games are "numbers", which is essentially a lottery, and betting with bookies, typically sports betting.
- In 1911 US legislation prohibited stud poker but ruled that draw poker was a game of skill and therefore was not illegal.
- The MGM Grand, situated on the a Las Vegas strip has come up with a brand new slogan to promote the casino, "Think of all the New Year's resolutions you'll break." Some say it might even rival the famous Las Vegas catchphrase, "What happens here, stays here."
