Liberals call for VLT cuts
The provincial Liberals want significant cuts to the number of video lottery terminals (VLTs) — and possibly to other gaming machines located in casinos as well — staking out a position sharply different from those of the two main provincial parties.

Gambling history facts:
- Nevada is the oldest and largest legalized gaming center in the United States. Gaming was legalized in Nevada in 1931 in the middle of the Great Depression as a form of economic stimulant.
- Riverboat casinos were first legalized in Iowa, then Illinois, followed closely by Missouri, Indiana, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
- Catholics were found to be more likely to gamble than Protestants and other religious groups. Catholics were also found to be less likely to disapprove of gambling than other religious groups.
