BGLC orders probe in Athanas case
WALTER Scott, chairman of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC), has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances which led to the dismissal of its case against Spiros Athanas, whose internet gaming operation was shut down last year.

Interesting gambling facts:
- The MGM Grand, situated on the a Las Vegas strip has come up with a brand new slogan to promote the casino, "Think of all the New Year's resolutions you'll break." Some say it might even rival the famous Las Vegas catchphrase, "What happens here, stays here."
- In 1911 US legislation prohibited stud poker but ruled that draw poker was a game of skill and therefore was not illegal.
- Catholics were found to be more likely to gamble than Protestants and other religious groups. Catholics were also found to be less likely to disapprove of gambling than other religious groups.
- The first legal lottery in the twentieth century was the New Hampshire Sweepstakes which began on March 12, 1964. Currently 37 states and the District of Columbia operate lotteries.
