‘Casino Leader’
As state legislators, gaming regulators, and Gov. Blagojevich ponder the future of a 10th casino in Illinois, Mayor Tony Arredia continues to express his belief that Des Plaines, not Rosemont or any other community, will eventually host the lucrative gambling operation.

Casino gambling information:
- Keno, the casino version of lotto, originated in China nearly 2000 years ago when Cheung Heung devised a lottery as a way of raising funds for his province's army.
- In 1978, New Jersey became the second state to legalize casino gambling in an attempt to revitalize the rundown resort area of Atlantic City. The legalization was restricted only to Atlantic City.
- The El Rancho Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas was known for a few firsts. It was the first casino/resort on the Strip opening in 1941 with 63 guestrooms. It was also the first to offer a buffet. The cost of the buffet was only $1.00! The El Rancho burned down in 1960 and fortunately no one was hurt.
- The first recorded betting games were played with marked disks or bones (the forerunners of dice), and spinning wheels or shields.
