Pocono Raceway out of slots competition
Owners of Pocono Raceway quit seeking a license to put slot machines at their automotive race track in Long Pond, leaving at least four companies vying to offer gambling in the Poconos and Lehigh Valley.

- In 1978, New Jersey became the second state to legalize casino gambling in an attempt to revitalize the rundown resort area of Atlantic City. The legalization was restricted only to Atlantic City.
