Lee optimistic on slots deal by special session’s end
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida Senate President Tom Lee sounded a note of optimism Wednesday that the Legislature would agree on how to tax and regulate slot machines in Broward County during a special session scheduled to end Friday.

- 1967: Elvis Presley marries Priscilla Anne Beaulieu on May 1 in the chapel of the Aladdin Hotel.

1971: Female card dealers begin working on the Strip for the first time. - Gambling became legalized in Vegas in 1931 by Mayme V. Stocker and J.H. Morgan who was issued Clark County Gaming License No. 1.
- In 1911, the state of California ruled that "draw" poker was a skill, and thus could not be banned under existing anti-gambling laws. However, "Stud" poker was still considered illegal at the time.
- The El Rancho Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas was known for a few firsts. It was the first casino/resort on the Strip opening in 1941 with 63 guestrooms. It was also the first to offer a buffet. The cost of the buffet was only $1.00! The El Rancho burned down in 1960 and fortunately no one was hurt.
