Ex-gambler warns of addiction
A former compulsive gambler said it’s inevitable slots will come to the area, but called for casinos to cut cushy perks like free alcohol, gourmet meals and hotel suites to help stop the addiction to gambling.

- In 1891, Sittman and Pitt of Brooklyn began to manufacture the first nationally known poker card machines. The machines maintained their enormous popularity until just before World War I.
