Casinos report strong July; parking demolition hurts Greektown
Detroit casinos logged their third-best month ever in July, reporting more than $110 million in total revenue, despite Greektown Casino L.L.C. showing a decline of nearly 7.5 percent from its July 2005 revenue figure.

Gambling casinos history:
- One of the oldest casinos in Europe, at Baden Baden in Germany, was opened in 1748 by Edouard Benazet, who employed Parisian craftsmen to design the stylish rooms.

- Lotteries were brought to America in the 1800s by the thousands of Chinese immigrants who worked in the mines and on the railroads.
- 1926: Las Vegas gets a regular air service. Western Air Express flies between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. The airfield later becomes the site for the famous Sahara and Hilton hotels.
1931: Gambling is legalized in Nevada on March 19. Construction begins on the long awaited Hoover Dam.
