Skill games crackdown long overdue
To hear the hue and cry over illegal casinos, you’d think somebody was banning Ohio State football games. On Friday, Muskingum County Sheriff Bob Stephenson and Prosecutor Michael Haddox began a long-overdue crackdown on the dozens of gambling parlors that have opened in the past 10 months.

- The name of the game "Poker" likely descended from the French poque, which descended from the German pochen ("to knock"), but it is not clear whether the games named by those terms were the real origins of poker.

- During the 1950s, the Senate Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce held a number of hearings on criminal influence in the casino industry. The committee was chaired by Senator Estes Kefauver, and the committee is also known by his name.
