State’s casino income passes $2 billion in 2006
Carson-area casinos and the south shore resorts at Tahoe rebounded in 2006, reporting major increases in net income compared with last year.

Casino gambling facts:
- Charles Fey invented the first slot machine way back in 1895. He went on to perfect his initial innovation in 1907, when he teamed with Mills Novelty Company who manufactured the "Mills Liberty Bell".
- The most popular form of charitable gambling is bingo. In California, bingo is the only charitable game that is legal.
- One of the oldest casinos in Europe, at Baden Baden in Germany, was opened in 1748 by Edouard Benazet, who employed Parisian craftsmen to design the stylish rooms.
- Catholics were found to be more likely to gamble than Protestants and other religious groups. Catholics were also found to be less likely to disapprove of gambling than other religious groups.
