ABC turns Bingo into series
ty centers and into your living room. The network game show “National Bingo Night” premieres Friday, May 18, at the tail end of May sweeps. Six episodes have been ordered. Designer/carpenter Ed Sanders of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is host; Andrew Glassman (”Average Joe,” “Three Wishes”) is the executive producer.

Interesting gambling information:
- It was during the 1930's that slot machines began to become very popular across America, and in the late 40's Bugsy Siegel added machines to his Flamingo Hilton hotel in Las Vegas.
- In 1911 US legislation prohibited stud poker but ruled that draw poker was a game of skill and therefore was not illegal.
- Catholics were found to be more likely to gamble than Protestants and other religious groups. Catholics were also found to be less likely to disapprove of gambling than other religious groups.
- Legal gambling operations in Washington reported $1.7 billion in net receipts in 2005: 61 percent was reported by tribal casinos, 10 percent came from the state lottery. 2 percent of responders in a February state survey said they placed bets online.
