School officials discuss gambling policy
A policy regarding gambling is one of the areas Sidney school trustees are considering changing in the school district’s policy book this spring. The policy would prohibit gambling for money anytime students are at an activity or traveling to an activity.

Interesting gambling facts:
- In 1978, New Jersey became the second state to legalize casino gambling in an attempt to revitalize the rundown resort area of Atlantic City. The legalization was restricted only to Atlantic City.
- In 1911 US legislation prohibited stud poker but ruled that draw poker was a game of skill and therefore was not illegal.
- By the 18th and 19th centuries a dice game called Hazard had become popular in England and was played by the aristocracy in private gambling houses.
- In 1980, the American Psychological Association included pathological gambling in their Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Third Edition (DSM-III).
