Yonkers Raceway Has Grand Opening For Casino
Yonkers Raceway had the grand opening of its Gotham Palace casino gambling yesterday. The raceway now has 5500 video lottery machines. It first opened in October with a few machines. It was up to 1700 machines in December. The entire complex called Empire City also has a restaurant and bandstand that will have live entertainment six nights a week.

Gambling history facts:
- Baccara (Italian) or baccarat (French) both translate to "zero" in English. The importance of this name is found in the tens and face cards, both sharing the zero value.
- In 1911, the state of California ruled that "draw" poker was a skill, and thus could not be banned under existing anti-gambling laws. However, "Stud" poker was still considered illegal at the time.
- The second oldest casino hotel resort on the Las Vegas Strip was the Last Frontier and it opened in October of 1942. It had 105 guestrooms and the property was made to look like an old western town. The first casino hotel resort opened just 18 months earlier and was called El Rancho.
- The age of electronic games began in 1964 with the Nevada Electronic's solid state "21" machines. The most successful of these was the Dale Electronics' Poker-Matic, which could be found in most Nevada casinos.
