Terry Fox figured there would be casino-style gambling in the Wichita area some day. He also dreamed of building a church north of the city. He never thought the two could happen at the same time.

A former fire captain and a victim advocate have been charged with running an illegal gambling operation in a convenience store, law enforcement officials say.

The Casino Queen in East St. Louis is targeting the first week of August for beginning of a new phase in downtown gambling. That’s when the Queen’s old riverboat will be replaced by a new casino being built in a parking lot to the east.
