Powerful arguments in iMEGA response
When the largely unknown Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association [iMEGA] burst onto the online gambling scene earlier this year, challenging the US government’s Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, there was some scepticism about its motivation and ability to stay the course. In recent months those sceptics will be reconsidering their opinions as the nascent organisation has shown an impressive legal capability that has US officials on the back foot.

Casino gambling information:
- Many casinos in Nevada were financed by mobsters. Most notable perhaps was Las Vegas' Flamingo which was opened in 1947 by Bugsy Siegel.
- The term "turned the tables" is actually a chess term coming from the mid 1600's. When a player was losing, they would physically turn the chess table to assume the winning side of the table.
- During the 1950s, the Senate Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce held a number of hearings on criminal influence in the casino industry. The committee was chaired by Senator Estes Kefauver, and the committee is also known by his name.
- 1941: The Strip gets its first luxury hotel. El Rancho Vegas sets the trend for many of the themed resorts that sprout along the Strip in later years.
1942: The first wedding chapel, the Little Church of the West, opens on the Strip in the Last Frontier Hotel.
