Four tribes raise $20 million to defend casino compacts
The referendum battle over a major expansion of Indian casino gambling in California already resembles the stretch run of a bruising political campaign — despite the fact nothing has even qualified for the ballot.

- In 1973, the Commission on the Review of National Policy toward Gambling was created to study gambling in the United States.
- 1926: Las Vegas gets a regular air service. Western Air Express flies between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. The airfield later becomes the site for the famous Sahara and Hilton hotels.
1931: Gambling is legalized in Nevada on March 19. Construction begins on the long awaited Hoover Dam. - Riverboat Gaming Has Captured 20% of the Casino Market Share. Mississippi now has more gambling square footage than Atlantic City.
- The age of electronic games began in 1964 with the Nevada Electronic's solid state "21" machines. The most successful of these was the Dale Electronics' Poker-Matic, which could be found in most Nevada casinos.
