STATE NEWS: Talk of gambling expansion always on the horizon in Illinois
CHICAGO (AP) - The Rev. Phil Blackwell fears Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Illinois legislators will do something he considers immoral: expand gambling. He might have reason to worry.

- Parimutuel wagering refers to the type of gambling where the total prize pool is based upon the amount of money wagered. The more money gambled, the bigger the prize.
- Dog racing (a race among greyhounds who chase after a mechanical rabbit) operates in 17 states. Jai-alai (a game similar to handball) is legal in just three: Connecticut, Florida, and Rhode Island.
- Poker is derived from the Persian game of "as nar" and was probably based on the dice game "tali", which was played by the Romans.
