One Kansas track backs off plan for slots, and the Woodlands also is wary of the numbers
After waiting a decade for slot machines, The Woodland s could walk away from the opportunity. Wichita businessman Phil Ruffin Sr. did just that last week for his Camptown dog track in Frontenac, Kan. He said the state’s 40 percent tax bite on racetrack slots wouldn’t leave enough cash flow to turn a fair profit.
