SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - The Sioux City Council is pondering a smoking ban at the Argosy Casino, even though a new state law exempts casinos. The law, which goes into effect July 1, bans smoking in most public places.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The owner of Tropicana casinos in Atlantic City, Las Vegas and Evansville, Ind., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, nearly five months after New Jersey regulators stripped the Tropicana Casino and Resort of its license.

Casino operator Tropicana Entertainment has filed for bankruptcy protection. And there are signs the economic downturn is spreading to the gambling industry.
