Lawmakers weigh expanding gambling in Delaware
The state’s budget woes could bolster efforts by the gaming industry to expand gambling in Delaware. Video Lottery Advisory Council chairman Edward Sutor says allowing table games, such as craps, at the Delaware slots casinos could generate an additional $42 million per year for the state and create 750 jobs.

Gambling casinos history:
- 1926: Las Vegas gets a regular air service. Western Air Express flies between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. The airfield later becomes the site for the famous Sahara and Hilton hotels.
1931: Gambling is legalized in Nevada on March 19. Construction begins on the long awaited Hoover Dam. - The first legal lottery in the twentieth century was the New Hampshire Sweepstakes which began on March 12, 1964. Currently 37 states and the District of Columbia operate lotteries.
- Riverboat casinos were first legalized in Iowa, then Illinois, followed closely by Missouri, Indiana, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
- Gaming is now the States' favorite pastime. More individuals gamble than the combined total of those attending movies, sports, music events, theme parks and live entertainment.
