WCJC to host senior bingo party Monday
Wharton County Junior College’s Senior Citizen Program is hosting bingo games from 2-3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 4 at the WCJC Senior Center in the LaDieu Building, 911 Boling Hwy. Seniors ages 60 or older can enjoy playing bingo with other seniors. Prizes and refreshments will be furnished by Angels Care Home Health.

Gambling casinos history:
- Casino chips were used in the 18th century as a substitute for money being wagered. Originally, they were pieces of bones, mother of pearl or ivory engraved with the name of the casino and their respective value.
- 1926: Las Vegas gets a regular air service. Western Air Express flies between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. The airfield later becomes the site for the famous Sahara and Hilton hotels.
1931: Gambling is legalized in Nevada on March 19. Construction begins on the long awaited Hoover Dam. - Gambling became legalized in Vegas in 1931 by Mayme V. Stocker and J.H. Morgan who was issued Clark County Gaming License No. 1.
- One of the oldest casinos in Europe, at Baden Baden in Germany, was opened in 1748 by Edouard Benazet, who employed Parisian craftsmen to design the stylish rooms.
