DES MOINES n Casino operations that moved from riverboats to shiny, new land-based casinos were the big winners in last years gaming market and helped lessen the overall impact of losses in other areas of the market.
Gamblers who walk away losers time after time at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods might scratch their heads and complain the casinos pay out very little from the slot machines.
A Putnam restaurant has been cleared for a temporary license to open an off-tracking betting room in its sports bar. J.D. Coopers, at 146 Park Road, has been approved for a 90-day provisional permit by the state Liquor Control Commission. The permit can be renewed at no cost for up to one year, commission director John Suchy said.
