ATLANTIC CITY Gaming giant MGM Mirage Inc. will sell its 50 percent ownership of Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in a settlement with New Jersey regulators over concerns that the companys Asian casino partner is too close to organized crime.

The looming budget crisis for the state of Texas could present lawmakers with a prime opportunity to expand gambling in the state. Past bills which would have opened the door to slot machines and casinos never received enough backing in the legislature, but with money tight, keeping dollars in state might force stronger consideration.
