States betting on gambling money
In the span of four days, we witnessed what was arguably the largest spate of gambling in U.S. history. By the time the Mega Millions lottery numbers were drawn on Friday, March 30, folks hoping for immediate wealth had bought more that 625 million tickets.

Interesting gambling facts:
- The first World Series of Poker was held in downtown Las Vegas at the Horseshoe Casino back in 1970. Then owner of the Horseshoe Jack Binion, hosted the very first one and has agreed to host upcoming World Series of Poker Tournament Circuit. Jack Binion said that is purely honorary and plans on doing other types deals and events in the future.
- The word Casino originally meant a public hall for music and dancing. By the second half of the 19th century, the term essentially meant a collection of gaming or gambling rooms. The classic example of a casino, is the casino at Monte-Carlo, which was opened in 1861.
- Baccara (Italian) or baccarat (French) both translate to "zero" in English. The importance of this name is found in the tens and face cards, both sharing the zero value.
- The first recorded betting games were played with marked disks or bones (the forerunners of dice), and spinning wheels or shields.
